Geographical position and features

Limni is one of the most picturesque areas in Northern Evia. It is 85 kilometres north - west of Chalkida and 30 kilometres south - east of Aidipsos. Limni is built amphitheatrically in a small, natural harbor, at the foot of the mountain Kandili and combines the green of the pine trees with the blue of the sea. The white washed houses look even whiter when they are reflected in the sparking blue waters of Evia. Despite the development of tourism, Limni has kept its local character as all the buildings are built in the traditional architectural style.

Limni can be a starting point for many tours through the region which is dominated by the mountain of Kandili. This Mountain, with its sleep slopes, reaches right down to the coast to meet the sea which crashes onto the rocky shore.

Very close to Limni, there is the fine beach of Kochili, Katounia, a place of great natural beauty, and the Monastery of Saint Nicholas, better know as «Galataki». The monastery is situated in beautiful scenery on the site of the ancient temple of Poseidon. At the east wing of the monastery, there stands a medieval tower.

Axladi

A short distance from Limni, there is the village of Chronia with many sandybeaches, and the village of Rovies, one of the most beautiful seaside villages of Evia. There is a Venetian tower in the centre of the village and the monastery of Saint David the Elder in a thickly wooded area with running water.

Starting from Limni, the visitor can climb up to the nearby mountain villages Skepasti, Kourkoulous, Daphni, Kechries. At Kechries, according to local tradition, there is the fountain of Herotokritos, the well known hero from Cretan literature. After passing through the charming village of Strofilia, the road leads to Agia Anna, a picturesque village looking onto the Agean sea.

There, one can visit the Agricultural and Folklore museum which exhibits many interesting objects from the local culture. It's worth going down to the large, sandy beach of the village. After going through Agia Anna one can visit Achladi and Kotsikia which are buried in green woods and which provide the visitor with magnificent beaches in coves scattered with small groups of islands.

Prokopi

Returning to Strofilia, one can go in the direction of thickly forested Kirintho and then to Mantouthi, a picturesque amphitheatrical town from which flows a plane tree covered river. From Mandouthi the visitor can observe the peaks of Mountain Kandili, which are usually lost in the clouds, and descend to the Agean coast line to Kimasi. An enchanting tour through old plane trees and pine trees will lead us to Prokopi, a village known for the church of Saint John the Russian whose relics had been brought by the refugees from Asia Minor. Close to Prokopi, there are the villages of Pili and Vlachia which are situated in a thickly forested area. Here, the beautiful beaches mingle with the waters of the Agean.
