Aliveri is a modern town and centre of trade and business for the surrounding area. It is situated 48 kilometres south - east of Chalkida and is only 17 Kilometres from Amarinthos. Aliveri is built ampitheatrically on hills and is a short distance from the sea. Karavos, its commercial harbor, is also the tourist centre for the surrounding area. From Aliveri the visitor can go on many interesting and exciting tours. One of these could be to Akti Nireos a thickly - wooded area with wonderful beaches and crystal - clear water. He could then continue his journey and go to the picturesque, thickly - forested village of Agios Loukas and travelling in SE direction one will go through the villages of Milaki and Prasino eventually reaching the Lake of Distos. Here, there is great variety of aquatic birds to be seen. It was in the area of Aliveri that the city - state of Tamina (or Tamunai) stood in ancient times. |
