Stira
- Nimborio - Kapsala - Almiropotamos Geographical position and features
Stira is a small, traditional village built amphitheatrically in a green thickly - forested landscape. It is 30 kilometres north - west of Karistos and 90 kilometres south - east of Chalkida. It comprises a single geographical area with its harbor, Nea Stira (New Stira) which is a short distance away. Nea Stira is a modern seaside resort, built along the coast of the Southern Gulf of Evia. It is linked to the eastern coast of Attiki by ferry boat to Agia Marina. At the entrance of the bay of Nea Stira, the small island of Stira is situated. From Nea Stira the visitor can go on many interesting tours to the Ravine of Charaka or to Niborio, a small seaside village between Marmari and Stira. The traditional village of Kapsala which is only a short distance from Stira, is also of interest. The picturesque village of Almiropotamos with its harbor Panayia, is also worth a visit. In front of the creek of Almiropotamos, the tiny island of Kavalliani is situated, and it forms two narrow entrances from the land, one to the north, and one to the south. If the visitor would rather escape to the beaches of the Agean, he can go to Zarakes and the beaches of Zarakon. |
