The mountaineering refuges

Steni is a thickly - forested area on the slopes of Dirfis, the highest - east of Chalkida, only 30 kilometres away. It provides for both winter and summer tourism. The main features are the thick show in winter and she running streams in summer. Steni consists of two villages, Ano (High) Steni and Kato (Low) Steni and there is also a small community at Pyrgos.

The area around Steni can me a starting point for many towrs through one of the most beautiful mountains in Evia, Dirfis. One can visit the mountaineering refuge and ski centre which is a short distance away or the village of Paliouras and Ayios Athanasios and admire the ravine of Agalis in a wild beautiful landscape.

The villages of Makrikapa and Atali and also of interest. At Atali, one of the largest caves in Evia can be found and the visitor can climb up to the mountain range of Tanathas as small plain on the second highest peak of Dirfys. It is also worth visiting the village of Dirfys, Loutsa, Kathenous. Theologou, Pisona, Kondothesopti and Glifada. Another beautiful village is Stropones which you world go through and eventually reach the seaside village of Chiliathous which lies on the of the most beautiful stretches of beaches on the coast of Agean Pelagos. Not far from Stropones one can visit Metohi, an enchanting village with flowering cherry - trees in spring and bright - red cherries in the summer.
